How to Measure for a Moroccan Floor Sofa Before You Order

A floor sofa should fit the way you use a room, as well as the wall it sits against. Before choosing a size, measure the available length, mark the seat depth on the floor, and leave room for doors, tables and everyday movement. A few careful measurements make a custom order much clearer.

Start with the usable wall length

Measure between the points where the sofa can actually sit. Include skirting boards, radiators, low shelves and any furniture that will stay beside it. For a corner arrangement, measure both walls separately and sketch where the two sections meet. Do not assume the room forms a perfect right angle.

Write every measurement in centimetres, even if you usually shop in feet. For reference, 6 ft is approximately 183 cm, 7 ft is 213 cm and 10 ft is 305 cm. Use the dimensions stated on the individual listing when comparing options.

Mark the depth before deciding

Use removable tape to outline the proposed seat on the floor. A deeper seat changes how much space remains in front of the sofa. Walk around the outline, open nearby doors, and check the distance to your coffee table. Back pillows also take up part of the usable sitting area.

Plan the finished seat height

Record the height you want after filling, rather than measuring a flattened cover. If you are ordering covers for existing foam, measure the foam itself: length, depth and thickness. Send those three dimensions together so the cover and insert can be discussed as one set.

Check pillows and armrests separately

Confirm the number and dimensions of the back pillows, small cushions and armrests included in your chosen option. An armrest placed on top of the seat uses sitting space. A pillow leaning against a wall also sits differently from one supported by a frame.
